"Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these." (Mark 12:31)
Wheelchair Ramp Projects - Aledo UMC's ramp team builds roughly one wheelchair ramp per month for families or individuals that are unable to access their homes easily. These builds are usually on Sunday afternoon and we meet at the Aledo park and ride to caravan to the site. Occasionally we will have a pre-build if it is a large ramp. This is a wonderful mission project that everyone is invited to be a part of at any time, although children should be old enough to help with the construction and supervised by parents at all times. Please contact Jeff O'Donald for more information or to find out when the next build is scheduled.
Manna Room - There has been a large increase in the number of people requesting food from our church. When you are shopping, please consider adding a few items to your cart for our Manna Room. Items (see list) may be delivered to the Manna Room bin in the narthex during regular church hours. If you have any questions, please contact KimWatson.
Snack Sacks - Prepare and deliver snack sacks to McCall Elementary to be distributed to children to have for the weekends and holidays. Items for Snack Sacks (see list) may be donated at any time by placing them in the collection bin in the narthex. You may also support a child by giving $10 per month. If you would like to help assemble or deliver Snack Sacks, please contact Sally Bond (817-253-2726).
Master's Builders - Assist those who have urgent items that need repair in their homes. The Master's Builders have helped numerous families in our community. Contact Jeff O'Donald for more information or to be put on the email list for upcoming projects.
Oak Hill Partnering Group - Oak Hill is a local low-income neighborhood that is in need of assistance. The Aledo UMC missions team has made a connection with this neighborhood and has initiated a team of people from our church and community who are willing to make a difference. We are working to assist with the immediate needs of this area as well as providing information to help break the cycle of poverty, while teaching them how to "fish". Last year we held Camp Hope in the summer and Christmas in the Park / Coats4Kids in December. Everyone is welcome to join this team. Please contact Trudy Smith for more information.
Camp Hope - The Center of Hope offers Camp Hope for children in various low-income neighborhoods around Parker County once a week for 2-3 hours from June through August. Volunteers read, play, and teach simple cooking activities so that the children are fed physically, emotionally and spiritually. Aledo UMC is one of the churches committed to assisting with Camp Hope in the Oak Hill neighborhoo and serves weekly for one month each summer. If you would like to serve on this team, please contact Trudy Smith.
Prison Ministry - The Gospel of Matthew 25:36 tells us that we will inherit the kingdom because, "I was in prison and you visited me". Aledo UMC has been represented in organized prison ministries for over twenty years. However, this ministry area is not for everyone. There is a process involving required training, background checks and a good deal of patience and humility. If you would like more information about our prison ministry, please contact Trudy Smith or Bob Bull through the church office at 817-441-8329.
Give One Day - Give One Day is exactly that... one day of service where we have the opportunity to give back to our community by helping others in need with various projects. Aledo UMC partners with several other area churches and organizations for one day each April. Please visit the Give One Day website.
Vacation Bible School - Every child in our church and community has the opportunity to attend our amazing Vacation Bible School at Aledo United Methodist Church at no charge. This would not be possible without our faithful volunteers. A team of around 60 volunteers is needed to make VBS a success every year. If you are interested in serving for VBS, please contact Jennifer McDaniel.
Child Mentoring Program - If you would like to serve as a mentor for a child in our community, please contact Pam Christiansen about our school district's Connections program.
Sunday School - One of the greatest ways to share God's love is by serving as a Sunday School teacher. Whether you would like to serve every week, or as a substitute or on a short-term basis, please prayerfully consider joining this ministry area of our church. Contact Jennifer McDaniel for children or Blake Britt for students to add your name to the Sunday School team!
Mission Trips - AUMC has international as well as domestic missions trips each year for adults, young adults and students. We have traveled to Haiti, Guatemala, Belize, Costa Rica, Louisiana, Colorado, and other locations to serve those in need and share God's love. If you are interested in going on an adult mission trip, contact Pam Christiansen. If you are interested in going on a young adult or youth mission trip, contact Blake Britt.
World Vision - Help provide food, clean water, education and more by sponsoring a child for $35 a month through World Vision organization. There are several other ways to help, including providing animals, water wells, etc.
UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief) - AUMC helps support UMCOR's relief efforts in Haiti. Checks may be made payable to AUMC with "Haiti Relief" noted on the subject line. 100% of money received goes directly to the work in Haiti. Contact Pam Christiansen for more information.
