Emergency Response Team

Aledo UMC is establishing a new Mission Opportunity; an emergency team of church members that would be available to respond to emergencies occurring in the North Texas Area.  We would also be available for assistance in other parts of Texas if requested.

The following are plans to bring this together.

  1. We would have a list of men and women who would like to assist if the need arises.
  2. We would require initial training on the equipment we are acquiring, i.e., Chainsaws.
  3. Review of all safety requirements to work in hazardous areas.
  4. We plan to provide CPR Training for everyone participating.
  5. All this training would require periodic review and recurrency to stay updated on equipment and safety procedures.
  6. Recurrent training would likely be bi-annually.

Anyone that may be interested, can contact our Communications point of Contact, Ben Combs with a call or text at 817-689-6619. Ben will be responsible for coordinating with disaster areas, i.e., fires, tornados, floods, or anyplace that needs emergency assistance.  Thanks to all who consider the Mission Opportunity.

Oak Hill Partnering Group

Oak Hill is a local low-income neighborhood that is in need of assistance.  The Aledo UMC missions team has made a connection with this neighborhood and has initiated a team of people from our church and community who are willing to make a difference.  We are working to assist with the immediate needs of this area as well as providing information to help break the cycle of poverty while teaching them how  "to fish".  Last year we held Camp Hope in the summer and Christmas in the Park / Coats4Kids in December.  Everyone is welcome to join this team.  Please contact Trudy Smith for more information.

Prison Ministry

The Gospel of Matthew 25:36 tells us that we will inherit the kingdom because "I was in prison and you visited me".  Aledo UMC has been represented in organized prison ministries for over twenty years.  However, this ministry area is not for everyone.  There is a process involving required training, background checks and a good deal of patience and humility.  If you would like more information about our prison ministry, please contact Trudy Smith or Bob Bull through the church office at 817-441-8329.

Camp Hope

The Center of Hope offers Camp Hope for children in various low-income neighborhoods around Parker County once a week for 2-3 hours from June through August.  Volunteers read, play, and teach simple cooking activities so that the children are fed physically, emotionally and spiritually.  Aledo UMC is one of the churches committed to assisting with Camp Hope in the Oak Hill neighborhood and serves weekly for one month each summer.  If you would like to serve on this team, please contact Trudy Smith.

Child Mentoring Program

If you would like to serve as a mentor for a child in our community, please contact Pam Christiansen about our school district's Connections program.

Vacation Bible School

Every child in our church and community has the opportunity to attend our amazing Vacation Bible School at Aledo United Methodist Church at no charge.  This would not be possible without our faithful volunteers.  A team of around 60 volunteers is needed to make VBS a success every year.  If you are interested in serving for VBS, please contact our Children's Director.
